Academic Instinct Tutoring (AIT)
Academic Instinct Tutoring (AIT) is expanding and seeking a certified, experienced ELA educator to join our virtual tutoring team. This is an hourly paid position ideal for teachers who are passionate about structured literacy and enjoy teaching in small, focused groups.
Position Overview
The ELA Tutor will provide explicit, systematic literacy instruction to students reading on a Kindergarten through 6th-grade level. Instruction is delivered live via Zoom to small groups of 2–5 students.
Curriculum is fully provided.
Teachers are responsible for implementing the curriculum, assigning homework, and conducting student assessments to monitor progress.
Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver explicit instruction in:
- Phonics & phonemic awareness
- Blending & segmenting
- Reading fluency
- Reading comprehension
- Spelling & orthographic patterns
- Sentence structure & paragraph formation
- Differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs
- Assign and review homework aligned to lesson objectives
- Conduct ongoing assessments and document student progress
- Maintain clear communication regarding student growth and needs
Student Population
Students may include learners with
- Dyslexia
- ADD/ADHD
- IEPs or 504 Plans
Experience working with learning differences is required.
Qualifications (Required)
- Valid teaching certification (state certification required)
- Minimum 3 years of teaching experience
- Strong knowledge of:
- Common Core ELA Standards
- Science of Reading
- Structured literacy instruction
- Experience teaching students with IEPs, 504 plans, ADHD, and dyslexia
- Comfortable delivering live instruction via Zoom
- Ability to manage and engage small groups (2–5 students)
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Availability for evening and weekend hours
Additional Paid Responsibilities
Tutors may also be compensated to host bi-weekly live parent workshops via Zoom.

- How to support reading and spelling at home
- Phonics vs. memorization: what parents should know
- Homework strategies for struggling readers
- Supporting children with ADHD during literacy tasks
- Reading strategies for students with dyslexia
- Building fluency and comprehension at home
