Position: USA Remote – Data Software Engineer – Contractor (Healthcare / Payer or Claims Data Platform)

Location: 100% Remote – Mainland-USA based candidates ONLY (working EST)

Length: Long-Term Contracting, 12+ Months (Likely extensions)

Target Pay Range: $55-$60/hr W2 (Benefits eligible after 60 days)

Work Auth: (TN, EAD-GC, GC, or US Cit.) – Must be eligible to work without requiring sponsorship now or in the future

Benefits: This job may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) after 60 days

About the Role

A fast-growing healthcare technology organization is seeking a strong Data Software Engineer to support a major data platform modernization initiative led by a specialized engineering consulting firm. This role focuses on building scalable data pipelines, streaming integrations, and automation tools that power a next-generation healthcare data ecosystem. The ideal candidate is highly skilled in Python, ETL frameworks, and streaming technologies, with experience in healthcare data (payer or claims).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-performance ETL pipelines and orchestration workflows (Airflow, dbt)
  • Develop backend services, APIs, and automation tools for data platform workflows
  • Build and optimize streaming integrations using Kafka
  • Collaborate with data engineering, analytics, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable solutions
  • Support migration of legacy systems to modern data platforms
  • Ensure data quality, lineage visibility, and stakeholder-ready documentation

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in data engineering or software development, with strong Python and SQL skills
  • Hands-on experience with ETL & pipeline development (Airflow, dbt)
  • Deep expertise in streaming technologies, especially Kafka
  • Healthcare experience required (payer or claims data experience preferred)
  • Experience with migration projects and modern cloud data platforms (AWS, Snowflake, Spark)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, and orchestration tools
