You will also get to dig into topics as you design and deliver dynamic training experiences that empower our staff to shine. From crafting interactive e-learning modules to leading inspiring presentations, you’ll transform complex concepts into practical skills that make a real impact. You’ll champion the ASPCA’s Learning Management System, collaborate with leadership to shape career development pathways, and ensure every team member has the opportunity to do their best work.
The Director of Training and Development reports directly to the Senior Director of Business Operations and has 1 direct report.
Where and When You’ll Work
New York City or Los Angeles area within commuting distance to our clinic locations
This is a hybrid position requiring one day per week onsite at one of our clinics in your area
Full time typically within a Monday to Friday workweek with some flexibility for weekend travel or evening or weekend training events with advance notice
Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% annually, as needed.

Compensation
Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.
The target hiring range for this role is $119,000.00 - $126,000.00 annually

Training and Professional Development
Work with CM subject matter experts in veterinary medicine, nursing and program operations to create engaging, cohesive self-paced and instructor-led learning experiences that transform theory into practical skills by building on the CM strategy statement
Facilitate high-quality workshops on a variety of topics ranging from ASPCA core values to training methodology that engage and inspire audiences and model expert presentation skills through skilled public speaking, well-organized progression, and appropriate visualizations in Canva or PowerPoint
Drive adoption and usability of the ASPCA Learning Management System and optimize its use for our fast-paced veterinary care clinic environment
Partner with the Learning & Development and CM leadership teams to adapt and apply leadership and career development frameworks for high-performing staff
Develop and execute a method of reliably maintaining the CM training library through audits and edits as our policies, practices or needs change
Engagement and Leadership
Lead training initiatives from inception to implementation and drive change with expert project leadership skills including timelines, communication strategies, and training programs that support departmental initiatives
Work with CM Leadership to understand the Community Medicine environment and culture, including the challenges and realities of training, and work to find creative solutions that consistently ensure welcoming, high-quality training and onboarding experiences aligned with organizational practices
Encourage a culture of accountability for managers in developing an environment of learning that supports staff development and provide guidance as needed
Create feedback systems to measure satisfaction with learning programs and improve access to learning opportunities requested by staff
Conduct regular site visits to observe training in action, provide feedback, and build relationships with teams
Staff Management
Manage one employee to succeed in managing the CM onboarding program by communicating clear expectations of their responsibilities, providing opportunities for learning and development and building positive and trusting relationships
Support your direct reports by holding regular effective feedback conversations, career conversations, annual performance evaluations and ongoing check-in conversations with each team member on a cadence that’s appropriate for their role.

Education and Work Experience
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required
Minimum five years’ experience training staff in a professional environment required
Minimum five years’ experience presenting to an in-person audience in a group/workshop setting required; ability to be proficient in presenting virtually also required
Minimum three years' experience developing and designing professional onboarding or training materials required
Demonstrated experience of applying instructional design methodologies required
Experience in developing e-learning experiences using platforms such as Articulate or Rise required
Demonstrated experience training in a fast-paced human or veterinary medicine environment strongly preferred
A combination of experience in the following areas strongly preferred: train the trainer; consulting; organizational design; program management; systems design and implementation; mentoring, coaching and talent management; leadership/staff development and/or career pathing
Project management skills and experience strongly preferred
Experience in change leadership strongly preferred
Experience managing or mentoring staff required
