They are seeking a pragmatic, people-focused HR Business Partner to link talent strategy with business objectives, manage employee relations, and enhance the overall employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Employee Relations & Advocacy: Serve as the trusted first point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns. Conduct sensitive, confidential investigations and provide guidance on conflict resolution, escalating complex/high-risk matters as needed
  • Manager Coaching & Development: Partner with managers to build leadership capability. Provide real-time coaching on performance management, difficult conversations, career development, and team dynamics
  • Performance Management Cycle: Guide managers and employees through our performance review process (goal-setting, mid-year check-ins, annual reviews). Ensure meaningful dialogue and documentation
  • Policy & Compliance Stewardship: Interpret and apply HR policies and procedures consistently. Manage compliance-related documentation, reporting, and processes. Stay current on federal and state employment law (with a focus on CA)
  • Employee Lifecycle Management: Own the seamless execution of onboarding for new hires and offboarding for departing employees, ensuring a positive and professional experience at every touchpoint
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline HR workflows, enhance the employee experience, and improve manager self-service. Be a voice for efficiency and practicality

Skills

  • 4-6 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a dedicated HRBP or HR Generalist role with significant employee relations responsibility
  • California employment law expert (or fiercely committed to becoming one). Experience navigating CA-specific regulations is a major plus
  • High emotional intelligence and discretion. Ability to navigate sensitive situations with empathy, fairness, and sound judgment
  • Ability to coach, not just consult. Satisfaction from building the manager's confidence and capability
  • Proactive and operational mindset. Ability to see gaps, anticipate needs, and build practical solutions
  • Excellent communication skills—able to explain complex policies and document issues with precision
  • Tech-savvy with experience in HRIS platforms (BambooHR), performance management systems (Lattice), Google Workspace, and project management tools
