At Houston Methodist, the Strategic Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) position is responsible for leading in supporting the growth of the business and its transformation by providing guidance and counsel on human capital and change management initiatives. This position is the point of contact for assigned client groups on all Human Resource (HR) initiatives and needs of a significant client group or system-wide service line which includes preparing regular statistical summaries and raising awareness of existing and emerging trends. The HRBP position guides and communicates Houston Methodist strategies and will function independently to provide HR leadership and consultation to influence the organization to operate in alignment with the business strategy and culture while supporting the improvement of organizational performance. This position requires a strong business and systems thinker, independent judgment and decisiveness and the ability to analyze and synthesize data in order to provide solutions and generate business results.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Partners successfully and seamlessly with system Executives, HR Directors, other HR Professionals and department Business Leaders to align effective business strategies and best practices by recommending solutions through independent/highly autonomous work or through the facilitation of work teams to enable the effective and efficient completion of objectives.
  • Identifies opportunities and takes action to build strategic relationships between one's area and other areas, teams, departments, and units to achieve business goals. Participates and/or leads and facilitates department process improvements, as needed.
  • Provides guidance and input to executives and leaders on best human capital management practices, business unit restructures, workforce planning and succession planning with other system departments, in collaboration with organizational development.
  • Serves as a role model and mentors peers as needed. Recommends opportunities for improvement of department score for turnover/retention/employee engagement.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Translates the Houston Methodist Brand, Employee Value Proposition, Business Strategy and Goals, along with the leader and workforce perspectives, into a robust practice platform. Undertakes short-term or long-term projects to address a variety of issues and needs.
  • Develops and drives change management strategy within the business to support the implementation of HR programs and initiatives. Helps clients strategically integrate effective HR processes, programs and practices into their daily operations.
  • Actively participates in the roll-out of company-wide strategic HR initiatives and programs including but not limited to performance management, leadership and management development, workforce planning and development, manager and employee education. Leads system-wide leadership project teams, as appropriate.
  • Supports the business and provides strategic consulting in developing, recommending and implementing effective organizational design and structure, talent and retention strategies, reward and recognition initiatives to meet business objectives.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Identifies key organizational and human capital issues, outlines a strategic alternative and recommends action plans to HR and business leaders and executives to improve business results.
  • Partners with senior-level management within the business or functions on issues that impact HR. Builds leadership capabilities and enhanced skill development.
  • Evaluates issues, patterns, and trends to provide proactive insights for HR solution and program designs. Creates and designs plans for applying new techniques for driving change in HR processes.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Collects business unit data to identify trends. Utilizes problem-solving skills to provide solutions and recommendations that will increase profitability and efficiency. Evaluates and interprets data to utilize as a tool for improving decision making within the workplace.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Proactively maintains a high level of business knowledge of the healthcare industry. Keeps abreast with new trends and advancements in the human resources field.
  • Seeks opportunities to identify self-developmental needs and takes appropriate action. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Master's degree highly encouraged and strongly preferred

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Eight years as an HR professional in a progressive business environment to include at least seven years designing and implementing HR programs
  • Proven track record planning and implementing effective human resource intervention to business problems, developing and consulting on change management strategies
  • Experience developing workforce plans, and influencing business unit leaders
  • Prior experience embedded in a client area or operations experience with people management experience preferred
